Well, it's been a challenging day! I was at work at 7, editing and re-printing a report (for a colleague I won't embarrass), before setting up my class for a lesson observation. I then sorted out 25 more reports before the children came in. Lesson went well - I think! We've been too busy today for me to get feedback, but you get a feel for these things. I taught my Year 5s a spot of Pythagoras' Theorem and they can now work out the length of all three sides of a right-angled triangle - so long as it is in the context of space and rockets! Then it was reports, teaching Literacy (a balanced argument - "Is it okay for children to use the Internet to help them to do exams?") before more reports instead of lunch. I then had the Year 6 boys for a video and talk on puberty for boys and girls and explored their questions about pubic hair, erections and wet dreams. I will need therapy - but hope I steered them right! Then it was reports, reports, reports! (For the record, mine were nailed a week ago!) We got them all out today. On schedule. Piece of wotsit. Then home. On a high, I blatted through the an challenge. It hurt, but it's done. Fingers crossed it's a rest day tomorrow, but who knows. Today's question: can anyone recommend a book for teaching (other!) teachers how to correctly punctuate a sentence? 😃 Well, it's been a challenging day! Whoa! That got stupidly harder for no reason! Body shaking and this has got harder for no discernible reason! And I made the mistake of looking ahead to tomorrow. It's not a rest day! I will strive to do it earlier in the day. Too tip - don't leave it until now. Today's question: shall I have a glass of wine? 45 sit ups? That was a struggle - but done. Can feel it when I hit 15... The crunches weren't too bad. The legs raises went okay. The plank? Shaking arms, but I used a stopwatch to time me. By the end, I was shaking like the Brazilian keeper at half time last night! Today's question: how much tougher will tomorrow be? Is there a sweeter phrase than "Rest Day" when you are knackered and had enough? I'm thrilled. I suspect it will hurt twice as much tomorrow, but it's nice today. Competing with the thunder and lightning whilst teaching Y5s about personal hygiene was fun - and a challenge. And finding out that 80% of my boys wear Lynx should give you all cause to go and by something else, because it really doesn't work for them! Mind you, it was funny seeing their faces when the penny dropped about why I have scented candles in my room. No, it's not that I am in touch with my feminine side (but who isn't?) - it's that I have 30 sweaty Y5s who are only just now learning about personal grooming! Today's question: when did you last touch a feminine side? Day 7. Day 7? Is that all? It feels like I've been doing this for months, not just part of a month. Sigh. Today was hard. I was working until late last night and up early again this morning. I've had a day doing paperwork in a small office with no windows that face outside. No windows to open for a breeze. No glimpse of natural light. And to come home to 40 sit ups was a shock. Still, I've done it. Let's move on! Today's question: how many sit ups tomorrow? If you've not been, Budster Ancient Farm is the place to visit for your Saxon and Roman needs! The staff are warm and knowledgeable, and they even allowed Thing 2 (who is 2) to turn his hand to archery! Google it. Go. Take your primary school aged children. Take anybody. Today's question: where did you go today that was somewhere new and "different"? 6 days in and it feels as if it's ramped up a bit. Really felt it today, but it could be a "time of day" thing. It is worth pursuing, if you like this sort of thing. Today's question: how much harder will tomorrow's session be? On a Friday, my class does a tables test and a spelling test. These are administered by an HLTA whilst I meet with a student teacher for a regular weekly mentor meeting. This week, I had printed the tables test out on Monday and left it on my desk. I wasn't in on Tuesday (day off to move!) and when I went in on Wednesday I was told that one of the parents had been in to see me. One (or more) of the children had "happened" upon the tables test on my desk and some of the children had snuck in and copied it down. She had an issue with this and thought we should know. I pondered this information and wondered what to do. On Friday, the children sat down to do their tables test and the first two questions were the same as I'd originally planned - from the 7 x table. Then question 3 was: "How many 9s in 135?" A couple of the children looked confused. One was heard to say, "Are you sure that's the right question?" Faces fell as the questions got tougher. Then the spellings. Instead of a straight forward spelling test, it was dictation. A dictation that told a story. A story that ended with me catching children cheating, saying that I knew who they were and that they hadn't got away with it. Sadly, a couple of the children were upset by this story. And the fact that the dictation seems to fill most of that afternoon's "Golden Time". Today's questions: how would you have handled it? Is it cruel to make them sweat? Day 5 and they've upped the number of repetitions. Still not too bad, but I can feel it now. And my arms are a little shaky when it comes to the plank. Am sure it is doing some good - maybe dieting, too, would help? We stopped a few minutes ago at a small garden centre (to buy a raincoat for Thing 1) and they have a new farm shop open - loads of free nibbles to lure you in. We've eaten so much that I don't think we will need lunch! But it is good to support locally grown produce, even if it's 3x the price! And the raspberry/blackberry hybrid has proved very popular with my two "Things"! Today's question: can you recommend a diet that works and you can stick to? Knowing we have our Sunmer Fair later and knowing I will be pressed for time, I thought is try and start the day with my 30 Day Abs day 4. Deep breath. Here we go. It's a rest day! I feel mildly elated, but also a little let down. I'm sure it's right, but had girded my loins ready and there's no need. Don't worry - I'll get over it. Today's question: can you gird things other than loins? |
