As previewed yesterday, I had a fortune cookie whilst out last night. In fact, we were presented with four as there was one less than five of us there. I had the last fortune cookie, so had no hand in choosing my own fortune. As a teacher I was tickled. It read: Many people will be drawn to you for your wisdom and insights. Today's question: what would yours say?

We've just been out for a lovely Chinese meal with sons Thing 1 and Thing 2. The food was plentiful and our appetites quenched. At the end of the meal we got fortune cookies (might be tomorrow's blog - tune in tomorrow to find out!) and wet wipes. The wipes came in a little packet and on it there were descriptions of the Chinese New Year animals. Regular viewers (I know!) can work out both my star sign and year of birth. (Even birth day given the tiniest bit of effort.) I was born in the year of the Ox. It says: natural born leaders (✅), successful (?), intelligent (✅✅), patient (❎❎), demanding (✅), conservative (?), hard working (✅) and reliable (✅). Today's question: how do you match up against your sign / Chinese year? Cupcakes were made for a certain birthday celebration. Vanilla. Light and fluffy. The only soggy bottoms had nothing to do with cakes. And smothered in homemade buttercream icing. I had one yesterday and it was really nice. However, as a Type I diabetic it pushed my blood sugar through the roof and meant I was pumping insulin in to my body through the roof! It also means that I won't be touching the things today. Such is life. Today's question: when did you last make something for someone that they then couldn't eat? It's the day before my birthday and time to take stock. Or something. Don't be misled - I'm already 40. For another few hours. But who celebrates 41? Sigh. I don't feel my age - unless you count my knees! They really feel older. And having a three year old can tough at any age. I hope it's no tougher on a 41yr old. Still - it could be worse! I could be about to hit puberty again. Or be turning 42! Today's question: what do you look forward to at 41? A few weeks ago, Thing 2 bundled into our bed at some unearthly hour and demanded parental attention. As they have a wont to do at 2. During our rough and tumble his tummy may have been tickled. His mum taught him the phrase: "It's too early for tickles!" which he happily chortles at any time. Such as this evening. After 7. So tonight's question is: when is it the right time for tickles? Trying to sell Thing 2 on the idea of geocaching wasn't working - until I said we were going on a treasure hunt! We found our first cache in a pipe behind a thing at the place. It was kinda cool. The second, hidden in a park, had some goodies - one of which was snaffled by Thing 2 and dubbed "treasure". I will only worry when he calls it "my precioussssss"! By the time we had bagged out third, we had spent some quality time together in the sun and found more goodies: again, he took some. He is now working out what we can put in the next cache we find. Geocaching - it's a bit (bit?!) geeky, but great if you are looking for something different to do to engage the children. Today's question: I now have 2 of the August 2014 Souvenirs - how many of you care? Whilst out hunting for a new laptop, I happened upon some in Staples. The one that caught my eye was nothing special - but it had an offer that baffled me. It read: Sale! £299.99 Was £279.99! Now, I'm a teacher, not a maths whizz (but actually...!) but even I had reason to pause... Today's question: how many of these units should they expect to shift with that marketing ploy? Thing 2 turned 3 on Monday, but we ha his party today. It was lovely that so many of his 3 year old buddies showed up. With their parents. And younger siblings. And some of my family. And some of my wife's - and her friends. And some people I'm sure we must know! Mercifully, we held it in a village hall, rather than in our house. We have plenty of food left - but only one of those cupcakes from the picture. And, surprisingly, almost all the wine was drunk and all the beer. And Thing 2? He had a ball. The sun shone and he played and had fun and we now have another mountain of presents to open. Big thanks to everyone who came - it who sent apologies - and for all the gifts. Thank goodness we have a big house! Today's question: what should we do for a 4 year old's birthday next year? To do something different, here is the recipe for banana muffins that I used to help me bak for Thing 2's party tomorrow. 125g butter 150g caster sugar Few drops vanilla extract 1 egg 2-3 over ripe bananas 190g self-raising flour 60 ml milk 12 muffin cases Pre heat oven to 180* (fan oven). Mix ingredients. Place into muffin cases. In oven for 15 - 20 minutes. Job done. Tasty and loved by little ones. Today's question: what's your secret recipe? That's right. Two Ferraris. Come on then - what's the collective noun? One is my son's (Thing 2). The other belongs to my father-in-law. I can tell you that the larger one is the same type that Magnum PI used to drive (if you are asking "Who?" then you probably happened on my blogs by mistake or for a dare!). It's well maintained and, once you get over the tape deck and lack of power steering, fine to drive. Today, I was asked to drive it again. Lifts had been promised, but alcohol had been consumed. By others, I hasten to add. As designated driver, I had been quaffing Diet Coke (other brands MAY be available, but I love this one. (Shameless endorsement?)) whilst others had imbued. And now I was going to reap the benefit. Of course, the fact that my son then jumped in his and raced me, carving me up and forcing me to choose between driving over the grass or him (I guess I COULD have stopped...?) meant that it was an interesting drive. Today's question: did you "get" yesterday's blog? |
