I went for an eye test today. It was on time. The optometrist was polite an efficient. It was all good. (No surprises, dear reader!) The contact lense test was even quicker. I didn't even have to put my lenses in! I suspect the future holds some new glasses (tiny change in my left eye) but the contacts will remain the same... Today's question: what has been the easiest test you've had?

All I want to say is that Thing 2 is a trooper; even full of cold and feeling miserable, he put on his superhero outfit and helped tidy the house! Today's question: when I'm not teaching, I put on a red costume and fight crime as the "Crimson Arachnid"; what would your superhero name be? I used to teach a fencing club after school, but a knee injury has put that on hold for now. So we asked our Year 6s what they would like, and I now have 17 of them for a "Film Making Club". This week had them using 6 iPads to record each other lip synch-ing to "Let It Go" and next week we are going to use editing software to splice them together to make a film that involves them all. At least, that is the plan! In future weeks, the children are going to plan and create their own short films and edit them. There is currently lots of enthusiasm and it was rewarding to see how many of them were really hamming it up today, despite the initial laughter and reticence. It will be great. Or, hopefully, everything will be awesome! Today's question: can you suggest a short film (suitable for pre-teens) that will inspire young film makers? New York has been hit with snow. They saw it coming and took steps. They've forecast it for the UK - but here, in the South, I suspect it won't hit us nearly as hard. This will upset the children - who doesn't enjoy a snow day and school closure? As a nation, we don't cope with heavy snow fall very well. But we do enjoy an excuse not to go to work. Today's question: are these two facts linked?! I am indebted - at least weekly - to a colleague hi gives me a lift either to or from work (or both). We (the better half and I) currently have one car. When we lived in the town where we work, this was seldom a problem. Now we have moved further out we have to share. Thanks to my colleague who passes the estate where I live, we are managing. He never asks for anything, never complains and always obliges. I did buy him an awesome Christmas / thank you gift, but I just wanted to publicly (a small public!) thank him. So, thank you Mike! Today's question: is there someone you would like to thank? I chose the poster for "Die Hard" as it is an awesome film in its own right, as well as being the best Christmas film. (Please don't waste your time trying to argue otherwise; many have tried...) I chose the poster as it also has all the details at the bottom of the poster. Associate producer etc... On Twitter today I saw a link to a website that enables you to download a font to help you create an authentic looking movie poster. It's so good I wanted to share it with both of my readers: www.sixsix8.com/2009/12/the-movie-poster-font-you-were-looking-for/ Today's question: have you something cool to share today? At 8:20 this morning, I sat down with a nurse and confirmed that I was who I claimed to be, was not wearing metal and had not got a metal plate in my head. I was then fed, feet first, into an MRI machine so that they could scan my sore left knee in an effort to diagnose why I am in discomfort. The experience was okay. I did not have my head in, which I'm sure would scare a lot of people, and I had the sounds of local radio to try (and fail to) drown out the clanging and banging noises. The staff were great and, after a very late night, I nearly dozed off! Now to wait for the results... Today's question: given the choice, what would you have asked to listen to? (I would not have chosen Spirit FM!) I have now changed the background colour for my blog. Yay. It's clearly possible, but not obvious. I am indebted to a kind stranger who read my blog, saw my plight, googled it (to my shame - why didn't I...?) and posted a link to a site that walked me through it. I did it last night but forget to click "Publish" - ah, you live and learn! Today's question: if I wanted to "pay it forward", what can I do to help you? The thought of a warm summer holiday ahead keeps me going through the cold winter... Through the mornings where I arrive at work before the sun is up and I go home when it's dark. But where to go this year. Last year we went to Tunisia - and we've done Centre Parcs and Turkey. But where to go with (will be) 4 and 12 year old boys. They enjoy swimming and sunshine. We are restricted to school summer holidays and a limited budget. Today's question: where could we go? Yep. That's me. And my new chum. Alice. A boa constrictor. To help with my teaching about "Rainforests", we got in an "animal guy". He brought in frogs, toads, a milk snake and a boa - as well as an owl and some tortoises. The one girl who flatly refused to touch any snakes has half a dozen photos holding those bad boys. There was a combination of excitement and fear. And from the children too. They loved it and, from speaking to the children who did this last year, it was an experience they'll never forget. Today's question: are there animals you wouldn't touch? |
