I was all set to write a funny, thought-provoking and (dare I brag) INTERESTING piece about apathy but I just can't be bothered.

When I can, I play squash once a week. My partner is better than I am, and I enjoy the epic battle when we meet. In this heat, it can be more challenging than usual. Today, though, I lost the first game as usual 4 - 9. Surprisingly, I won the second 9 - 3. My right knee started to ache. I did a long session at the gym yesterday - the first time in a while - and a five mile walk this morning. I hope it's just that. I've had problems with my knees before, but it's been fine. I took the third game 9 - 0 which shocked us both, especially the way I nailed the last point. We stopped straight after, although we still had time on the clock. My knee was throbbing but, more importantly, my partner was off his game. It was fun - but felt easier than normal. I shouldn't complain, but I know I haven suddenly improved. I hope he's okay. Today's question: what's good (apart from R.I.C.E.) for a sore knee? As teachers, we need thing that engage, hook and excite the children. I have some buzzers. Simple things, but used effectively. The first one was bought from Staples (in the sale for 50 pence) and it says "EASY" on it. When you press it, a male voice (with an American accent) says "That was easy!". When the children have solved something - or answered a question - they can earn the right to press the buzzer. They love it. I also have a "Britain's Got Talent" buzzer which I use on rare (ahem!) occasions when someone has been "Show and Telling" for too long or a group has been putting on a (air quotes "") play. Or I've just had enough. I do a passable Simon Cowell (not voice, not high-waisted trousers, but honesty!) and it's always taken in good spirits. I also have one hidden away in my drawer in its packet that never sees the light of day - although there may be ridiculous claims from the children that it does! It was a gift from a pupil bought on holiday in Disney World, Florida. It's from The Lion King and it is Scar (voiced by the excellently gravel-voiced Jeremy Irons) and it says "I'm surrounded by idiots". Enough said. Today's questions: what would YOUR personalised buzzer say, and what would that say about you? Regular viewers (yes, I know!) will be aware that my youngest (affectionately known on my blog as Thing 2) turned 3 today and that we have been coming to terms with his shift from things like Peppa Pig towards the like of Superman and Batman (although it's very sweet that he mixes them up). You'd think that letting him watch "Batman Begins" would have made him happy, but... Stop! I am, obviously, kidding. We don't know where this craze originated, but we are pleased we have found the ultimate middle ground. The photo with today's post is of "Super George"! Bless the makers of coming up with this! Super George is currently laying in Thing 2's bed alongside a 9" Batman figure (with posable arms!) and Pirate George Pig and Muddy Puddle George Pig... And a very tired, very spoilt, Thing 2. Happy birthday, little fella x Today's question: what will the next "George Pig" character be? Over the last few weeks, there has been a reduction in the demands to see Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol, and an increase in those for Batman and Superman (but, oddly, not Spider-Man). We are not sure how it started, but there are an increasing number of little boys at Thing 2's nursery who are suddenly into their super heroes. He used to like Mike the Knight and now it's more Dark Knight! Thing 2 turns 3 tomorrow and we are having a party next weekend (as we had stuff we couldn't shift this weekend as it was out of our control). As you can see from his cake, we have changed from the Peppa and George cake he has originally asked for. Unfortunately, we can't undo the Peppa invites and goodie bags. Such is life. Today's question: when did 2 turning 3 make them seem so old? Following a day at Arundel Castle watching knights wielding swords Following a day at Arundel Castle, watching knights wielding swords and riding horses, Thing 2 returned him in his new purchases. When asked by a builder if he wanted to be a builder when he was older, the reply was, "No! A knight!" The blood-thirsty, sword-wielding knight, wearing a "George Pig" t-shirt, blows my mind. Today's question: when did he make the move from Peppa pig to heroes? Do de de do. Do de do de do do. A beautiful day today rapidly went down hill as we boarded the train to Gunwharf Quays this afternoon. The black clouds rolled in and the further from Chichester we got, the blacker the skies. Yes, second day of the summer holidays (for me - before those avid fans (fan!) of the blog holler that they've been on holiday for ages) and the rain is coming down. To be honest, the air is a lot clearer now it's passed, and the evening a little cooler. And the weather is due to improve again - for a little longer. It WAS nice as I jogged from Chichester towards Bognor this morning. In fact, it was very nice. Too nice. A spot of rain would have been most pleasant. Such is life. Today's question: when have you ever wished for rain on a fine summer's day? For someone who doesn't enjoy DIY or gardening particularly, I have been finding some strange kind of solace in painting my fence. The house is brand new and, unsurprisingly, so is the fence around part of the back garden. (To clarify, it's part wall and part fence.) Somehow, in painting the interior (garden facing) side of the fence badly with some blue "fence paint", I've achieved a weathered effect that looks great. Phew! Today, it was stripping off and making a start in the heat of the day, painting the exterior a more traditional brown. There is something quite satisfying doing it. Especially as there is no rush. Forecast for tomorrow is not so good. But the fine weather is due to continue, right? Today's question: right? Last night's skittle evening was a resounding success (big shout out to Maria and me for organising it) and I was even on the winning skittles team. This followed an evening where staff from my school were singing as part of a concert to raise money for a sick child in reception. Although it was well attended and raised some money, sadly the hashtag #jessiestaffsingers wasn't trending on Twitter. And now, for those of you who can decide the opening lyric that is my title - and can recognise the single cover sleeve that is the picture - you will know why I am 1.5 bottles of white wine down! "...Out for summer Out for fall We might not come back at all..." Today's question: what would you do with 6 weeks paid leave? We have all had them. Days where nothing has quite gone as planned and people have said things that have made you look at yourself - or the things you've done - and say, "Huh". Or they've just cheesed (please choose an age appropriate words for "cheesed"!) you off. I've had that today. One day to go until the end of term and I'm still stewing from today. Off out for an end of term thing, but seething. Tomorrow will be better. It has to be. And I thought "Great - I can vent on my blog. Get it all out". But anyone can read this. So - deep breath. And, as they say in "Frozen" (other excellent Disney movies are available), "Let it go..."! Today's question: will I be sad to say "farewell" to my class tomorrow for the second time? |
