On Friday, our school is celebrating its 50th year. Having had our staff meeting yesterday after school, we teachers NOW know what we are expected to have in place for the celebrations. If only we had had six weeks to plan for it. Still, I'm sure it will all go swimmingly. Unless it rains. There's no plan B. Today's question: there should ALWAYS be a plan B, right? 😟 After such a long break, it's always a bit of a shock to the system to return to work when it's the children's first day back. However, I have survived, but a foolish part of me had forgotten that planning exciting work can often mean an evening of marking it! The first day went well, and I have high hopes for tomorrow too. Today's question: how long is it until half term? For Thing 2's birthday, he wanted Super Heroes! At 4, they're a big part of his life. The ones pictured aren't LEGO - they're something I found on eBay that were shipped in from China and a fraction of the cost. Strangely, each character (which are wonderful by the way) comes with a third hand and a gun. Hmm... Not a lot of guns really in the hands of superheroes. They have been dutifully repurposed and are heading Thing 1's way; at 12, he has more imaginative ways to use them. Today's question: how did we lose Iron Man so quickly? As I'm heading out this evening, I've just seen this imposing sight; Chichester Cathedral. It dominates the skyline for miles around and has a 1000 year old history. Just thought it was worth sharing with my American readers who don't have access to such beautiful architecture. Today's question: is there a building you see every day that you think is worth sharing? Love it or hate it, it serves a purpose. Cheap, self-construct furniture is very popular in certain circles. We have some. Too much, in my opinion as the one who has to construct it. I do not enjoy it. Not at all. But there is a tiny bit of satisfaction that comes from completing a piece and it remaining upright. Or looking like it does on the box. Or both! I've nearly finished today's one. At least, I hope I have! Today's question: why do we do these things? We entered an art competition. It was to link Chichester and our twin town, Chartres. The brief was that we had to use photography. The children took almost 2000 photos using the iPads and we printed them out in colour and black and white. The colour image in the middle of the pic is of Chartres Cathedral. The children worked hard to complete the work and we're thrilled to be commended for their efforts - and pleased when the work was displayed (albeit briefly) in Pallant House Gallery. Today's question: what ideas does anyone have for an art project to help out school celebrate 50 years? Thing 2 turns 4 on Tuesday. Today we had a small party for him. Well, it was full of small people! Thank goodness it was indoors! For him, the highlight was that the village hall had a sound system with two radio mics. We got the Frozen soundtrack going and he belted out "Let it go". How he had the courage to do it in front of a room full of his peers and family, I don't know. I feel ridiculously proud and I'm sure this won't be the only time we see him on stage. Today's question: what do we do for his 5th birthday party next July? My 12 year old son's education continues this evening as we watch "The Lost Boys". It's definitely a film of his time, and, for my money, a lot cooler than the Twilight films. I was shocked to find out it was released in 1987 though. Eek! Worth a watch for the hair and clothes alone! Oh - and the immortal line: death by stereo! Today's question: which classic films of the 80s & 90s should I watch with Thing 1? I really like this little pic that I stumbled across on Pinterest a week or so ago. With a little one of my own, and being of an age where I grew up on the original three Star Wars movies (well, as much as I ever grew up), it hits a certain chord. Not much to say today - it's been a wet and miserable (and expensive!) day, but wanted to share a little something that may bring some sunshine to someone. Today's question: how do you share sunshine? |
