As a teacher, I am often trying to steal / borrow / find new ideas and resources. A little while ago I fell into Pinterest and I have found all kinds of goodies. I now have displays and homemade resources and lesson ideas - as well as a wealth of funny pictures and recipes - because I dive into Pinterest when I have the odd minute. I just wanted to share for those who haven't discovered it yet. Today's question: what do you use?

The photo doesn't do it justice, but the picture was a thank you from one of the girls in my class today. I've not seen anything like it and I wanted to share it with both of my listeners! 😀 A bonus question: isn't it nice when people take the time to make a "thank you" so personal? Although many schools have broken up already, for some of us today is the last day. It is always met with mixed feelings: summer stretches before us, but we have to say farewell too. This, also, leaves many teachers with mixed feelings. I teach at a single form entry school and, for years, was a Year 3 teacher. Two years ago I was moved to Year 5. This has resulted in me teaching the same two years of children twice. Our Year 6s move on after today. And my Year 5s - who have one day left with me having spent two of the last three in my care - are almost ready to move up to Year 6. Neither class look old enough in my minds eye to be moving. I'm sure it will be emotional for many. Today's question: it's last day of term, so what do you teach? I have not seen "The Theory of Everything", but by all account Eddie Redmayne's performance was stunning. In fact, the best comment I read was that you forget who you are watching and forget it's a performance. The reason I singled this one winner out over all of the others was his reaction was so joyful, so genuine. Brilliant. Today's question: who would you be certain to thank in your acceptance speech? I've just been asked what my speciality is. It came out of left field and I'll confess I'm rather stumped! Speciality? In what? Teaching? Cooking? Sport? Film? In the kitchen? Or a different room in the house? And when it comes to blowing our own trumpets, many people are better at it than me. Even with context, I'd be a little stumped. I am very good at the comeback - the witty one liner. In fact, I am too quick. I hear the words come out before I have processed to see what the reaction will provoke. I'm also pretty good at keeping my head when those around me are losing theirs. But my speciality...? Today's question: how would YOU reply of posed the same question? Is it the Oscars this weekend? Really? I hadn't heard...! As much as I love movies - and the escapism that comes with them - the Oscars do nothing for me. The glitz. The glamour. The dresses. Really? The dresses? Who are you wearing? Really?! They do nothing for me, except maybe increase the price of the film on DVD and add some stickers to the front of it. And the fact that Peppa Pig and the Golden Boots wasn't even nominated has confused Thing 2! Today's question: what's going to get best picture? There is something magical about little children (two of them aged 3 1/2) singing Happy Birthday to their little 2 year old friend. It's full of enthusiasm but lacking in accuracy. Magical nonetheless. Today's question: is it normal that I have no memories of my life from before I was about 12? Yesterday for many was Pancake Day. For fewer, it was Shrove Tuesday. The start of Lent. A time when some will choose to give something up for 40 days. That's 40 days apart from Sundays. And, if certain friends of mine are to be believed, it also allows for parties, nights out, hard days at work, PMS and JUST BECAUSE, ALRIGHT!? I have done work with my class in the past around the idea of giving things up for 40 days and always with mixed results. As a school, we have even celebrated Shrove Tuesday with pancake races. (Another blog I will tell of the broken collarbone that was the result of one such extravaganza!) Now, I'm not deeply religious, but an excuse to give up something "bad" could be grasped. I'm trying to go without a couple of personal vices. It won't be easy - but that's kind of the point. Today's question: what little luxury would you struggle to give up for 40 days? ...they prefer the box it comes in! I made Thing 2 a sports car out of an old box. It's for him, but I've videoed (do we still say that? Filmed him? Yes - that's more 21st century!) him in it for something I want to do in school next week. Having filmed him walking and on his scooter, I shot him in his car on the driveway. Then I wanted him to ask, "But which is the best way to go to school?" I now have five minutes of increasingly infuriated footage (me infuriated, not him) of me saying, "Say 'Which is the best way to go to school?'" and him pointing and saying, "That way." It's almost funny. I will share it with the children as a DVD Extra! Today's question: which is the best way to travel to school? I have signed up to TweepsMap (search for it online) as I was curious to see where my followers on Twitter lurk. Unsurprisingly, many of them are in the UK. I have a small number in Canada an the U.S., but my biggest surprise is my follower in South Korea! I may be a bit geeky, but think that is pretty cool! Today's question: do you Tweet? |
