Having negotiated free use of theocal tennis courts for our upper Key Stage 2 classes for the afternoon, I led my Year 5s down.
We spread out on to 5 courts from 13:00 - 14:00 and they had loads of fun smacking the balls over the fences, at each other and, every now and then, over the net.
(Thanks to Mrs Stisted for having the cheek to ask if we could have a couple of extra empty courts as nobody was using them - as a mum, she's the first to get a Deputy Headteacher sticker from me!)
I even got some of them playing doubles.
We swapped when the Year 6s arrived and I led my merry - if slightly weary - troops back to do some science. Chance (yeah, right) had it that they were then discussing in Science how our bodies feel after exercise. I mean, talk about lucky!
The Year 6s, how wet, grumbled that there was no water for them to drink, no shade to sit in and, believe it or not, they just didn't want to play tennis.
The comments from our Games teacher about their attitude don't bear repeating.
Such a shame - my class would have happily stayed for the second hour.
