I got a present yesterday. It is a bracelet like the one in the picture. They are for people who have run officially sanctioned marathons. I have a red one as I have done one. I believe cyan is for two. It makes me feel that I am part of an ever growing club. I don't know anyone else who has one, but then, when I got my first tattoo, I didn't have any friends with one (though I did have a few family members - not Thing 1 or Thing 2 before you worry!). I wonder if this will take off. I am keen to wear it as the company is called OSAAT - One Step At A Time. With knee surgery hanging over me and recovery time, I am hoping to get back in to running by the summer. For me, 2016 is going to be another year of 10ks, 10 miles and, ballot willing, a second stab at the London Marathon. My training, though, will definitely be one step at a time. Today's question: do you know anyone who has an OSAAT bracelet? I got a present yesterday. It is a bracelet like the one in the picture. It's Valentine's Day. The obvious thing to do is to take Thing 2 to the cinema and watch a film. Although he's desperate to watch Shawn the Sheep: Da Movie, we watched the special screening of "Peppa Pig: The Golden Boots". I'm not going to spoil it for you, dear reader, but once we got past the twenty minutes of ads before the trailers, and ignored the Milkshake presenters, the Peppa episodes were charming. If you have a little one who loves the Pig, swallow the £7something cost of a child ticket (which I could get in on with my boyish good looks - pah!) and go. Today's question: what is the first rule of muddy puddle jumping? (Mrs Neaves tells me I'm wrong; it's not "you don't talk about muddy puddle jumping". It SHOULD be. Just saying.) For a short 6 week half term, it has felt very long! I observed a colleague teach a great English lesson this morning (made minutely greater by a couple of little nudges from modest me) and was buzzing. However, too many late night, broken nights, health worries and early mornings lead me to near collapse. Half way through the school year. The end is in sight! Today's question: is it too early to be counting down to the Summer holidays? So, we have to do a presentation about New Zealand to a panel to try and win a competition tied in to the cricket World Cup. We have to tie in culture, sport, population, facts. I have a plan. And it involves teaching 30 x 10 yr olds how to do the Haka. Today's question: how hard can it be? A call from the physio came today following the MRI (avid listener will know what I'm on about). I'm not going to blind you with medical terms, but they said my knee was a "code red". I've knackered the cartilage and the bone! I should be on crutches and must have a "very high pain threshold". They're referring me to the hospital and should have keyhole surgery within the next three weeks, if all goes well! Fingers crossed. Today's question: if you were told you couldn't do something, what would you miss the most? The photo doesn't do this beautiful piece of art (that I got for Christmas) justice. It's very "me" and has finally found a place in the master bedroom. Today's question: do you have a unique piece of art you're so proud of you want to share? Another of my "easy yet tastes great" recipes - by popular demand. Tub of double cream Leftover chocolate (yes, it CAN exist) Heat cream on stove in a non-stick pan. When it starts to bubble, take off the heat and put in small chunks of chocolate. Stir. Then either chill (for a ganache) or stick in marshmallows, strawberries or whatever tickles you! I often add a squirt of golden syrup as the chocolate melts in the residual heat from the cream - and if it's for adults, a sneaky shot of Baileys! Enjoy! (We do this with excess Easter eggs - again, yes, there are such things!) Today's question: what's your secret pleasure? Guess what I'm rewarding myself with for finishing all my parents' evenings a week earlier than planned? |
